2009 Harvest Update

October 16th

A View of the Vineyard

Our 2009 harvest at Somerston Vineyards is full of optimism and promise. It is a balanced cool to warm vintage that is finishing off with refreshing a bit of rain. We started off with a very mild frost season in comparison to last year and cooler temperatures, this created conditions for an average year in terms of yields. Lush canopies protected grapes from sun damage while still allowing veraison (red grapes color change from green to red and softening in white wine varietals) to occur quickly due to consecutive warm to hot days in early to late August. September and October have been perfect and even though we are experiencing a little rain, mid month, the fruit has amazing flavor and concentration. In short, looks like it is going to be a great 2009 vintage at Somerston Vineyards. Cheers!
