HARVEST NOTES | | The 2013 vintage was a classic, near-perfect growing season with warm days and cold nights. The mild summer and warm weather after verasion caused the fruit to develop with good balance, great flavors, bright acidity, and mature well-developed tannins.
WINEMAKING | Each of our 2013 Coach Gun component wines was handpicked, sorted, and fermented naturally, then aged 28 months in 50% new French oak barrels. The blend was refined over the first year of aging, and the final blend was determined just months before bottling.
This small production Petit Verdot comes from Block 100 on the east side of Priest Ranch, which is a 3.4-acre block. This late-ripening fruit has the opportunity to hang on the vine longer than most of our fruit and is harvested at the end of the season, which adds additional tannins, vibrant color, and spicy characteristics. Spicy foods pair well with Petit Verdot, as well as spicy pork or sausages. With hints of blackberry and vanilla and aromas of flowers and blueberries, this wine is a red wine lover’s dream.
