Staff’s Picks Holiday Wine & Food Pairings

Be it cozying up around a fire, enjoying a small gathering with loved ones, or hosting a virtual get-together, there's nothing like the perfect wine with your favorite fare to top off your holiday. We hope the following pairings put together by our Tasting Room Manager, Chris Schreiner, and our Tasting Room Lead, Jose Tores, will enhance your celebration, no matter how you commemorate this season!

2015 Brut Rosé

While most might not automatically consider sparkling wine with their turkey dinner, it's a fantastic pairing - especially if the turkey is deep-fried! Thanksgiving is a celebration, so we think bubbles are always appropriate. To complement the main course, a traditional cranberry sauce is a slightly sweet addition that accents the Brut Rosé.

Not a turkey fan? An alternative favorite is pineapple glazed ham. The glaze adds another layer of complexity for a pairing that dances on the palate.

2018 Rosé

Perfect to sip on while prepping any holiday meal, with hors d'oeuvres, and even into the traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings, our Rosé is one of our most versatile wines. With a vibrant color you simply can't miss, this wine boasts rich notes of dry red berries and wild strawberries.

The medium-bodied palate is balanced and has hints of spice, watermelon, and cherry, making it a great accompaniment to appetizers like nuts, grapes, sliced apples, and pomegranate with a wedge of cheese such as Chèvre.

2018 Grenache Blanc

There are so many delicious sides our Grenache Blanc pairs beautifully with. Still, our top favorites are herbed stuffing, mashed potatoes with a delicious gravy, corn on the cob, and asparagus.

This white wine has bright aromas of white peach, melons, and honeysuckle. The palate is sharp with beautiful acidity and minerality with a touch of tannins. Hints of bright stone fruits, Asian pears, and citrus make it the perfect accent with classic Thanksgiving sides or a delicious triple cream cheese as a snack to munch on while dinner cooks.

2014 Coach Gun

Our Coach Gun is a show-stopper on its own as an evening sipper in front of a fire, but when pairing it with holiday fare, there's no better way to savor this wine than with prime rib.

Full-bodied with a medium level of acidity, this wine is dry and tannic, making it perfect for pairing with a heartier meal. With notes of licorice, blackberry, and roasted coffee bean, the velvety soft tannins on the finished blend well with meat.

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with a rounded mouthfeel that is persistent in the long, lingering opulent finish. The excellent tannin structure and balanced acidity on the palate allows you to taste hints of vanilla, black cherry, cassis, and plum.

With bold, substantial flavors abound, this wine is a match made in heaven with a turkey roasted to perfection.

2010 Port

Last but certainly not least, our favorite desserts! Paired with our Priest Ranch Port, which has just the right amount of sweetness and acidity, a classic pumpkin pie, maple cheesecake, or a cheese course at the end of the meal is the best way to finish the evening.
